Tarot of Seasons – First Sketches

Here are the first round of sketches for the Tarot deck I’m working on, The Tarot of Seasons.

The Child of Winter (roughly the Page of Pentacles) with Lucia

The Moon, with Ehwaz, Mani, and eventually Hjúki and Bil.

Sacrifice (The Hanged Man) with Isa, Odin, and eventually the Well of Wyrd and Yggdrasil.

Death with Kenaz, a Firebird, Valknot, and the triple spiral showing the transformative fire cycles of Water/Alcohol (Distillation), Stone/Metal (Forging), and Earth/Plants (Redwoods have pyrogenic seeds).

As you can start to see, each of the Trumps has an Elder Futhark rune modifying it, and each of the Suits is a season correlating to the classical element:
Winter = Earth, traditionally pentacles, here bones
Spring = Water, traditionally cups, here eggs
Summer = Fire, traditionally wands (or swords), here horns/antlers
Autumn = Air, traditionally swords (or wands), here quills/feathers

Further modifications to the structure and inspiration for this deck will be revealed in progressive sketches. I have a long, long way to go, and it’s satisfying to finally really get started.
