Huginn’s Heathen Hof has organized a declaration, signed by many different Heathen and some Pagan or other Polytheist groups, declaring our intent to boycott the Asatru Folk Assembly. They are calling it Declaration 127. Here is the meat of it:
In a recent statement the AFA declared point blank that non-white and LGBT Heathens were not welcome in their tradition. While the undersigned organizations listed here fully recognize the AFA’s right to govern themselves as they see fit, and with full autonomy, we hereby exercise the same right.
We will not promote, associate, or do business with the AFA as an organization so long as they maintain these discriminatory policies.
The AFA’s views do not represent our communities. We hereby declare that we do not condone hatred or discrimination carried out in the name of our religion, and will no longer associate with those who do. We will not grant the tacit approval of silence in the name of frið, to those who would use our traditions to justify prejudice on the basis of race, nationality, orientation, or gender identity.
The Vanic Conspiracy has signed this agreement, and we take it as an oath to not associate with the AFA as an organization. We encourage other Heathens, Pagans, and Polytheists who are tired of seeing the Norse Gods represented as gods of racism and bigotry to sign on as well.

Yeah, I read the statements on Facebook, and I am absolutely disgusted. I am not a Heathen and “boycotting” the AFA wouldn’t be doing much, since I don’t do anything with Heathen groups under the best of circumstances, but please know that I really respect the VC for sticking it to these asshats.
Their white-only, cis-only, straight-only, gender-conforming-only group is a slap in the face to 98% of my deities. And I wish, on behalf of the Hellenic pantheon, that I could return that slap in the face.

It’s not entirely kind to quite a few of our deities either, frankly, but they seem to be conveniently forgetting that. Or excluding those gods, which isn’t any better, frankly. -E-

Fair point. I think the thing that baffles me most is that — yeah, ok, ignoring Loki is sort of De Rigeur for a lot of Asatru — but like, aren’t there depictions of Odin wearing Seer’s clothing typically associated with women? And wasn’t there that one time that he took the form of a woman to seduce another woman? Again, not my trad, and maybe I’ve misunderstood something, but shouldn’t Odinists be honoring Odin? Or something?

They honor Odin, and ignore those bits, I think. I’m… not actually sure how they deal with that. It makes no sense to me.

And honestly, the VC has never had anything to do with the AFA in the first place, so yeah, I doubt they’ll miss us. But at least we’re part of an effort to provide alternatives, which is about the best I can do from here, really. -E-
