EmberVoices
My name is Ember Cooke. I serve the Vanir - Freyja, Freyr, and Their kin - as a priestess, minister, teacher, bard, artist, medium, and witch. Or to put it the Heathen way, as a gythia, galdrakona, and seidhkona.
My personal practice is more diverse, as the Vanir have lead me into cross-training, interfaith work, and counseling for the wider Pagan community as needed. My friends and allies may span the world, but it is the Vanir I love as family. -E-

My Core Theology: A Meditation on Existence
At my core, I am a pantheist as well as a polytheist and animist. I believe that everything comes together to a greater consciousness, a greater Being. Over the years, I’ve meditated and pondered and written and dreamed about how … Continue reading

Sometimes Ravens Fly
I have left Hrafnar. It feels a lot like moving the last of my stuff out of my parent’s house. I haven’t lived there in a long time, but I never stopped thinking of it as home. Until I did. … Continue reading

Hail Keith “Cynan” Roberts! Rest Well, Old Friend.
Keith Roberts, better known to the extended SF Bay Area Pagan, Fandom, SCA, Poly, etc. communities as Cynan, died earlier today. I’m not up for writing a glowing obituary just yet. Cynan was a dear friend of mine, and I … Continue reading

In This Time of Upheaval, Hold Together #SafetyPin
I wish to create safer space. If you too wish to create safer space, wear a simple, unadorned #SafetyPin on your person. Mine is pinned to my purse so that it is always with me wherever I go. –Ember–

Triggers, Allergies, and Content Labels
Here is another in my series of “things I see a lot across the web that I want to address”. This one is less directly about religion, although since the Pagan movement has a lot of marginalized people in it, … Continue reading

For National Coming Out Day, I present to you a guest post and collaboration with my dear friend and colleague, Dee Shull. They shared with me this poem, and I so loved it that I asked them if I could … Continue reading

There Is No Away
I’m ranting lately. It’s been a hard week in a hard month in a hard year, and I just want it all to go away. All the things I just can’t deal with, all the people who hurt me or … Continue reading

Isolation Won’t Help
I keep running across a particular narrative online, and occasionally in person: “There are bad things in the world. Isolate yourself to avoid harm!” “Other people don’t agree with you. Isolate yourself to avoid being tainted by them!” “Anything unapproved … Continue reading
